Southampton defender Luke Shaw has reportedly been on the cusp of a big move ever since he broke into the first team in January 2012, now just two years later he seems destined for a big move to a Premier League giant. Both Manchester United and Chelsea look to battle it out for the 18 years old, who they both see as a long term successor to Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole respectively. The left back would become one of the most expensive teenagers ever, as a price of £22.5 million has been mentioned, but is he worth that Shaw, who has notched up just the 44 first team appearances for the Saints, is seen by many as one of the brightest English talents and a future England star but many would be forgiven if they had a raised eyebrow at the expected fee. For £22.5 million plus, many fans would expect that to be for an experienced international not an 18-year-old. So could this be another example of another overpriced English player as he is currently only Englands fourth choice left back behind Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines and Kieran Gibbs. However due to the current transfer market English players come with a premium price and many believe he is capable of living up to. None of the names above were first choice for England at his tender age of 18, and Shaw has the potential to exceed their ability in the coming years. And its no coincidence he has caught the attention of one of the greatest managers in the world in Jose Mourinho. Chelsea looks the most likely destination as Ashley Cole seems out of favour, with Cesar Azpilicueta currently playing at left full-back. If Shaw was to move he would be in great company as he would join most notably Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who have all gone onto playing at the highest level, the Champions League. With the departure of Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese in the last few weeks it is more likely than ever there will be departures from Saint Marys, and Luke Shaw could be the first out the door as early as this transfer window.
