Southwest Iowa...demand the facts regarding our current state of affairs serving our mentally ill patients. The reorganization to regional community based care ( that the governor refers to)is an awesome idea; however, it has not had time to get off the ground effectively. When it does succeed, mentally ill folks still need short in patient stays to safely stabilize during periods of crisis. By the way, Clarinda is an acute care, short stay unit. The treatment goal is for discharge back to the community as quickly and safely as possible.
