"Southwest Missouri farmers are feeling like drought has caught up to them again. Though not as early as the previous two years, many areas have seen dry weather that has caused hay crops and pastures to stop growing, corn to wilt and soybean emergence and growth to be minimal. With each passing day the evidence of drought is becoming more real for most farmers. It remains to be seen if this drought will rival the previous two years. Farmers are hoping they will not have to start feeding hay soon. The good news is that spring rains resulted in an excellent wheat crop and hay and fescue seed yields have been impressive on many farms.” - Tim Schnakenberg, MU Extension agronomy specialist headquartered in Galena, Mo.
