Soylent, a liquid food designed to meet all your nutritional needs. In case youre too busy to eat or you hate food or something. I have mixed feelings about this. Its the start of a food technology that may one day prove sustainable enough to feed people in impoverished areas or crisis situations (it currently costs around $10 per day, if that could be halved, it may be feasible for use here) or astronauts en route to Mars and beyond. It seems to have great potential for use in emergency or no-other-option scenarios. But for regular day-to-day nourishment I would rather support sustainable food and agriculture that would not only provide nutrition but also enrich communities. And I am not sure that it will truly provide optimal nutrition in the same way food does-- perhaps someday in the future that kind of food technology would be perfected (instead of a pre-made powder thats a one-size-fits-all, it would be a micro-factory that samples your genes and manufactures a mixture tailor-fit to your particular physiological needs). It is also really weird to me that people who dont really need Soylent may actually still prefer it because they consider eating to be a hassle?
