Spaghetti with Meat Sauce For the pasta sauce: (or use your favorite canned sauce) 28 oz. can whole peeled tomatoes 1 T. olive oil 1 small onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 tsp. Italian seasoning 1/2 teaspoon dried basil 1 tsp. sugar pinch of salt and pepper Heat the oil over med. high heat in a med. size pot and sauté the onion till tender (about 5-6 minutes). Lower the heat to medium, add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute while stirring so it doesnt burn. Add the tomatoes, Italian seasoning, basil, sugar, salt and pepper. Cook for 20 minutes. Using an emersion blender or blender, puree the sauce to your desired thickness. Remove from heat and set aside. 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 lb. ground sweet Italian sausage 1 C. sliced button mushrooms 1/2 C. diced green bell pepper 8 oz. thin spaghetti 1 tsp. salt parmesan cheese Bring a pot of water to boil, add salt and then the pasta. Cook until desired taste (I like mine a little more than al dente). Meanwhile, brown the ground beef and sausage in a skillet, breaking up with the back of a wooden spoon. Once cooked through, drain the grease and add in the mushrooms and bell pepper. Cook for another 5-6 minutes then pour in the pasta sauce and stir well to combine. Reduce heat to low and keep warm till the pasta is ready. Once the pasta is done, drain and do not rinse. Place a portion of the pasta on a plate, top with the meat sauce and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. I made garlic bread to go with mine.
