Spanish bike maker Bultaco makes a come back after 31-year with electric superbikes! The legendary Spanish brand (created in 1958 and ceased operation in 1983) dominated the off-road and racing sports on all sides of the Atlantic in its heydays. Bultaco’s 1960s Sherpa T model was widely regarded as one of the most durable and capable off-road bikes ever built. Launching its new electric motorcycles yesterday in London, Bultaco announced that it was back with a vengeance. Moving way from its traditional 2-stroke motorcycles, Bultaco has gone green (and futuristic) with emission-free electric motorcycles. Bultaco launched two electric bikes; the Rapitan and the Sport Rapitan. The Bultaco Rapitan is a street bike while the Sport version is a race off-road bike. The bikes were designed from the ground-up, together with the University of Madrid Carlos III . The electric engine is a brushless one, air cooled developing 55 HP (40 kW). It has 125 Nm of torque and the street bike is equipped with ABS, traction control and of course regenerative braking. It can hit hit 90mph when the throttle is pinned wide open (which we agree is much lower than what the petrol-powered superbikes can do currently). But on the positive side, it only takes 45 minutes to brim the batteries using the ‘Quick Charge’ system and it can travel for around 85 miles on a single charge. Rapitans will be available to the public later this year for an undisclosed price. Image: Bultaco
