“Speak, LORD, for thy servant hears.”—1 Samuel 3:9 A - TopicsExpress

“Speak, LORD, for thy servant hears.”—1 Samuel 3:9 A phrase in my prayers this morning stays with me, “The words of the Lord are true.” Surely, all of us who come to God in prayer, all who approach him in faith acknowledge this to be so. Our disagreements and disunities have nothing to do with what God has spoken. He speaks only the truth. So why, O LORD, do we not come together in that unity for which the Savior prayed, “that they may all be one”? (John 17:21) Perhaps my brothers and sisters suffer the same failing that afflicts me. The Lord speaks clearly and truthfully, but I do not always hear. I too often fail to listen. I wonder what openness we might find towards one another, and towards the truth and unity to which God calls us if we would expend more and more effort listening, hearing the Lord who calls to us in the night of our brokenness and wills to make us whole, to make us one in him. “Let me hear what God the LORD will speak”—Psalm 85:8
