Heres new secdef nominee Ashton Carter, beside the president yesterday and saying this: Mr. Carter, who stood next to Mr. Obama, pledged to keep faith with what he called the greatest fighting force the world has ever known. Both presidents Bush and Obama have used this line (or variations on it). This is, in Washington, the equivalent of basic religious dogma. If you dont say it, youre not of the faith. It matters little that the greatest fighting force the world has ever known cant seem to bring any of its wars, conflicts, interventions, or most of the time even minor raids (as yesterday with the killing of an American hostage in Yemen in the midst of a raid to rescue) to a successful conclusion!
