Receive fraternal and warm greetings on behalf of the SRC 2013 and in my own name. We feel honoured to be part of this all important ceremony, one which recognises the struggle and achievement of students, who traveled different paths, who in an effort whose essential point was to demonstrate a simple point, that the acquisition of Education is of utmost importance that it can never be overemphasized. In our midst, I am humbled at the presence of the lady graduating today from rural Cofimvaba, who despite the ever deteriorating education system in the country, particularly in the Public schooling arena. Where she had to wake up at 4am, to clean and prepare food for her 3 orphaned siblings and then make the lengthy hour walk to the Senior Secondary School where she was enrolled to finish her matric. At times, only to find that her Maths and Science teachers had on the day decided not to pitch for work. I stand humbled too, by the gentleman hailing from Emalahleni in Mpumalanga. The first generation student at home who travelled all the way to our prestigious University so as to attain the necessary qualification and post today’s certification, go back home in a desperate attempt to change the lives of his family of 10 and the community in general. In internalising the words of Chairman Mao as quoted earlier, you as the guests of honour, graduates, are armed with a powerful weapon to change the status quo. It is your duty to translate the acquisition of education into a meaningful social and economic transformation for the benefit of the vast majority of our people. let the skills and qualifications obtained at no point be used to show your superiority over others, you have to be mindful of the obvious fact that “you are first a member of the community before being a student”, the only way you can feel proud is having assisted your community with no expectation of material gains and thus contributed towards Nation building, head the call of Italian Marxist, Antonio Gramsci, when he request that you “be loyal to the social class that you come from” In closing it would be grave of me if I fail to reaffirm our commitment and the importance of the Academic project, thus I quote His Majesty, the emperor of Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia“EDUCATION AND DILLIGENCE ARE THE MAIN FOUNDATION TO OUR NATIONAL EXISTENCE” I thank you
