Speaking in public has its fair share of challenges. Regardless of experience it will always have some level of challenge. Some basics to have are: know the topic (naturally). Know your audience. Be original and be yourself. If you like to joke go ahead. But balance that out. Make sure you balance the humor with getting your point across. And make sure the audience gets the attempts at humor. The last thing you need is to have people feeling like their intelligence was insulted. The better you know the audience the better your point gets across. Even if you dont know the crowd too well there are ways to read them to know if your point is getting across.
