Speaking of dogs, heard this rumor at work this week. Those of you who have known me for 30 or so years know that when I was in the Air Force I was lucky enough to be stationed at the Pentagon for 5 years, and worked as a administrative assistant in "AF/CVAM" the office that schedules and manages Air Force Special Air Missions and Presidential Flight Support. Taxpayers can rest assured that non-official trips on Air Force jets by the President, his family or personal friends, and yes, even members of the media or press corps are REIMBURSED to the US Treasury. I personally processed checks signed by first ladies, friends of presidents, and a whopper of $500,000 paid for travel of members of the press during a campaign season and handcarried them to the Finance Office at Bolling AFB for deposit. During the Carter administration, the cost was equal to first class fare to the destination plus $1, since the Air Force cannot compete with commercial airlines. During the Regan administration the reimbursement was dropped to economy fare plus $1.....I have no idea what is today, but imagine it is one or the other.. So when "Bo" the presidential dog travels, I can assure you that our civil servants and military members who oversee these programs make sure that everything is done within the scope of what is in the best interest of the taxpayers.... snopes/politics/obama/bo.asp
