Speaking on behalf the Students of the 5 tertiary institutions in Imo State, the Chairman, Council of SUG Presidents and SUG President of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Comr. Nwadike Orient, said that their visit was to congratulate the Deputy Speaker on his emergence as governorship candidate of PDP. Nwadike added that having followed his activities and progress in the Legislature and having seen what he had achieved for the students, women, youths and other sectors of the state, he was bold to state without any fear or favour that the conferment on Rt.Hon Emeka Ihedioha as Commander of Youth Development came well deserved. ‘‘Besides being a youth like us, you have shown a rare character by fulfilling every promise you have made. We hereby adopt your Free and Qualitative Education Policy as the only way forward for the collapsed education sector. We shall mobilise the entire students of to ensure that you are elected to restore the pride of our dear state. We are optimistic that as students’-friendly leaders, we will work harmoniously towards addressing the daring challenges faced our students in Imo State.- he said. ******Heres what the Deputy Speaker had to say: ‘I am humbled and indeed challenged by this singular show of love and solidarity at this critical time of redefining and charting a new course for our state. As a student activist during my university years, I understand the struggle you have assumed for the collective interest of the youths and indeed the nation. ‘‘I welcome this endorsement and solidarity which is a clear signal that you are all desirous of a positive and realistic change from the present deceit and corrupt government in Imo State. ‘‘I promise I will offer a totally different service from what Governor Okorocha is doing. I want to reiterate that I will offer a free and qualitative education to our people based on a well thought out planning, transparency and result-driven policies. What is happening today in Imo State is regrettable and alarming. How can Okorocha say he is offering free education when under his watch, all the structures of education have collapsed? What type of free education is he giving when out of 500 Secondary schools; we have only 87 Mathematics teachers, 131 English language teachers and 130 Biology teachers? What this means, is that we are in a state of crises and if something is not done quickly, we will have ourselves to blame for not causing the change that will address these ills. ‘‘When by the grace of God I become governor, I will activate and upgrade the Teachers’ Training Colleges for the sole aim of training our teachers to ensure quality and professionalism,” he said.
