Special Cover issued during Aesculapia XIV in 1992 Aesculapia is a cultural fest organised by the Medical College Students Union in Calcutta. The Fest is named after Aesculapius. The Cover also shows a bust of Aesculapius along with nurses attending to patients. Aesculapius(also spelt Asclepius) was a God of medicine in ancient Greece. Aesculapius presents the healing aspect of the medical arts. The pictorial cancellation shows the Conium maculatum plant. Seeds of this plant are used to make Hemlock, which was used as poison in ancient Greece (The Poisoning of Socrates is a famous incident in this regard). In low doses it was used in medicinal formulations also.
