Special Thank you from Theresa Pitcairn Bloom where you are - TopicsExpress

Special Thank you from Theresa Pitcairn Bloom where you are planted” This may appear to arrive a little late as the elections were a week ago. Most candidates will have posted their post election messages.. I would ask however that you please bear with me. As I write I am thinking that the Creator rested on the seventh day..but we women just cant seem to take a few minutes out..busy carrying the world on our shoulders..I decided that I would follow the Creator’s example and grab some shut eye to catch up on some much needed sleep and time with my family after a hectic campaign.. As my kids teach me, priorities are not written in granite..they should be flexible..and change as we change..Today I promised myself that I would concentrate on this task.. If I may, I would like to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to the many people of Bodden Town (and supporters from other districts) who were gracious with their time; invited me into their homes; shared their stories; their vision of Cayman for them and their kids, grandkids; attended the meetings; shared fried fish and flitters and jerk chicken (during the wee hours of the morning when “duppies are frightened”..yes..I know..a recipe for heartburn..but so tasty after a day without any food)..whose support was truly invaluable during this past election cycle. I am grateful. I learnt so much.. There were many wonderful and special moments during the campaign that had the members of my committee and I in stitches..these moments were magic..some moments were not quite so pleasant especially when I saw the quality of life that many of our citizens have. I had to ask myself “How does a collection of people elected by us to represent our interests..(and for how many years now?) say that they care and not see how many of us now suffer?..how we live?..the economic disabilities? not see how many of our sons are incarcerated?..not hear our young people ask for job and educational opportunities? I acknowledge that many of our challenges are linked to activities in our homes coupled with prevailing economic conditions. My prayer is that the current PPM government will develop policies in the immediate, medium and long term that will pull this community from its current crisis. I am also praying that during the next four years our legislators will work towards strengthening business confidence and entrepreneurial dynamism. And providing our people with real opportunities to succeed. At the heart of the survival of our islands, in a world driven by the narrow views of a tension filled international community (unsympathetic to the needs of small island communities such as ours, as recently evident in Cameron’s letter to the 10 offshore territories) our leaders have a duty to find a formulae to work together to safeguard our future and those of our kids. Indeed our times dictate that we as electors have an equal duty to ensure that they do just that! I would like to thank the Bodden Town community once again for their support and you my FB friends for affording me the opportunity to share these thoughts. Vote Theresa Pitcairn
