Special Weather Statement For St. Vincent and the Grenadines Advisory #2A for St. Vincent and the Grenadines on T.S CHANTAL Issued at 8:00 am Monday, 08th July, 2013 A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm conditions are possible within the Watch area. . .in this case within 24 to 36 hours. At 8:00 am the center of “Chantal” was located near 10.6°N 50.6°W or about 730 miles..approximately 1168km to the east southeast of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. ‘Chantal’ is still moving rapidly towards the Lesser Antilles at 26mph…43 km/h. This same rapid westward or west-northwestward motion is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds remain near 40mph…65km/h with higher gusts near showers. Tropical-storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles….95km from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mbs (29.74 inches). On this present track the center of Chantal is forecasted to pass about 60 miles to the North of St. Vincent and the Grenadines late tonight (Monday) or early Tuesday. The system will produce moderate to heavy showers, scattered thunderstorms and storm force winds across St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are anticipated. Some increase in strength is forecasted. In addition, sea conditions will deteriorate and swells may reach as high as 4 meters (13ft). Therefore a small craft warning is in effect for above normal sea swells. Residents should continue to monitor the progress of this system and take all necessary precautions. The St Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Office will continue to monitor the progress of this system and will issue further statements as it becomes necessary.
