Spent a long and happy day at Colchester Zoo. The kids have gone back to school so we had the place to ourselves and roamed round and enjoyed the fabulous collection of animals housed in wide open pens, not cages. The zoo has set up conservation programmes to safeguard species that are are on the red list, seriously endangered, and have a breeding programme to ensure the continuity of some of these animals. We fed the elephant and giraffe and saw the sea-lions and penguins being fed. There were teach-ins and displays and we left after nearly 6 hours a lot wiser and with a lot of photos. Another top recommendation from me if you want a great day out
