Spiritually speaking, the stones relate to indifference and rebellion that very often we harbour just below our conscious level of thought. Hearing Gods Word and having it quickened to our conscious mind is one thing, but allowing that Word to take root in the deeper levels of our being is another thing. Receiving the theory of the Word is relatively easy, but if we are not faithful to let Jesus Christ show us the hidden stones in our hearts, we will find ourselves resisting and even trying to hinder Gods Word from coming to fruition in the everyday circumstances of our lives. If we do not have some strong roots in the Crucified Christ, roots that will allow us to draw life and substance from His Surrender and Humility, we simply will wither away when the hot, scorching sun of trials and persecutions shines on us. - The Need for Spiritual Growth
