It was the maiden Challenger singles title. The title was worth 80 ATP points and $7200. Interestingly, he had accumulated only 84 ATP points in singles from 13 tournaments for his current ranking of 451. This was the second loss for 118th-ranked Nedovyesov in a Challenger final in India this season, after he had lost to Somdev Devvarman in the $100,000 Delhi Open final in February. Sarita Devi, coaches and Chef-de-mission suspended The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Executive Committee Bureau on 21st October decided to provisionally suspend L. Sarita Devi, her coaches Gurbakhsh Singh Sandhu, Blas Iglesias Fernandez and Sagar Mal Dhayal as well as Indian chef-de-mission in the Incheon Asian Games, Adille J. Sumariwalla and not to allow any of them to participate at all levels of AIBA competitions, events and meetings until further notice. Malala: Malala Yousafzai will accept the Liberty Medal at the National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia. Malala was chosen months ago for the Liberty Medal, which is bestowed annually on someone who strives to secure freedom for people around the globe.She is now the seventh person chosen for the medal who subsequently received the Nobel prize. Ashwika Kapur: Ashwika Kapur of Kolkata on 24th October won the prestigious Panda Award, aspart of the annual Wildscreen Film Festival held at Bristol, U.K. She is the first Indian woman to win the coveted wildlife photography award for her film on a Kakapo parrot. Ms. Kapur’s film “Sirocco — how a dud became a stud” is based on Sirocco, a Kakapo parrot, which is perhaps the only bird to have bagged a government job.The male bird was appointed as the Official Spokesbird for Conservation in New Zealand and it helps in conservation advocacy on social media. The film earned 26-year-old Ms. Kapur a nomination for the best Newcomer category, competing against two other nominees. This year, the Windscreen Film Festival received 488 entries from 42 countries. The Kakapo parrot, a nocturnal and flightless species of the parrot, is classified as a critically endangered species since 2012 on the IUCN Red List.The bird, found in New Zealand, is known to be one of the longest-living birds and its known population is 125. Over 14,000 people from 162 countries voted the Kakapo the world’s favourite species in 2013. The tiger and the African elephant came second and third, respectively. Persons in news Noyonita Lodh: Noyonita Lodh from Bangalore, who was crowned Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Universe 2014, will compete in Miami for Miss Universe on January 25, 2015. Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta announced the winners on the grand finale, which was judged by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, former Miss India and actress Esha Gupta and designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil. MM Sharma: The Medals and Prizes committee of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK has decided to name its career achievement medal after MM Sharma, FRS, the former director of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner is the new chairman of the Chennai-based ‘Kalakshetra,’ the institution founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale to nurture India’s artistic traditions. Kaushal Srivastava: Kaushal Srivastava is set to become the new Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Custom (CBEC), the apex policy making body of indirect taxes. Srivastava, a 1978 batch Indian Revenue Service officer and senior-most in the board after the present chairperson, is at present Member (budget) with additional charge of computerisation and vigilance. He will replace JM Shanti Sundharam, who is retiring on October 31. Srivastava will remain at the top post till July next year when he turns 60, the official age of retirement. Murali Lanka: Wal-Mart India has appointed Murali Lanka as its new Chief Operating Officer effective from December 1. Lanka will report to Wal-Mart India CEO & President Krish Iyer. Sundar pichai: Google Inc chief executive officer (CEO) Larry Page has put Sundar Pichai, one of his key lieutenants, in charge of the internet companys products. The India-born executive will have oversight over products like search, maps, Google+, commerce, advertising and infrastructure, according to a Google. Six executives who previously reported to Page, including the heads of research, social media and search, will now report to Pichai, according to Re/code, which first reported the change on Friday, citing an internal memo.
