Sports Bolt in final three Usain Bolt Last Updated: November 05, 12:00 AM André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt is among the three finalists announced by the IAAF for the Male Athlete of the Year (AOY) award. Bolt, who is chasing a record five AOY awards, will be challenged by 5,000m and 10,000 World champion Mo Farah and World high jump champion and Diamond race winner Bohdan Bondarenko. The Jamaican, who won three sprint gold medals at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow earlier this year in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, also won 10 out of 11 finals over the season in the 100m, 150m and 200m. The finalists were selected after a monthlong poll of members of the World Athletics Family, inclusive of selected members of the international press, IAAF council members, IAAF member federations, IAAF committee and commission members, meeting directors, ambassadors, athlete representatives, IAAF staff members and top athletes. On November 16, the male and female winners will be announced at the 2013 World Athletics Gala in Monte Carlo. SHELLY AMONG FINALISTS Another Jamaican, sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won three gold medals (100m, 200m and 4x100m) in Moscow, is expected to be named among the female finalists when that announcement is made today. The other female nominees are shot putter Valerie Adams of New Zealand, Swedens middle-distance runner Abeba Aregawi, Ethiopian distance runners Meseret Defar and Tirunesh Dibaba, 400m hurdler Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic, Colombias triple jumper Caterine Ibargüen, discus thrower Sandra Perkovic of Croatia, hurdler Brianna Rollins of the United States, and Russian high jumper Svetlana Shkolina.
