Springbok injury update: No real concerns. The Springboks are in the fortunate position of not having any serious injuries to the squad that face the Wallabies this coming weekend at Newlands. Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts said a few players are carrying small niggles from the game against the All Blacks in Auckland, but that there is nothing that really concerns him and that he excpects everyone in the squad to be available for selection. “We don’t have too much to report thankfully,” Roberts said. “We’ve got three guys with small niggles that they picked up in New Zealand. The first one is Flip van der Merwe who has a muscle strain in his bum. He didn’t train today and we will be building him up through the week and take him through his final phase of rehab to have him ready for the weekend. “JJ Engelbrecht got quite a nasty lammie (corked thigh) in the game. He is still a little sore, but he did part of the training today and we are quite happy with his progress. “And finally Gurthro Steenkamp has a Grade 1 AC joint strain that he picked up against the All Blacks. He did all the training except the contact today, so he should be fine for the weekend,” Roberts said. Thus the Boks should be able to field their strongest available team. Fourie du Preez is expected to make a welcoming return to the starting line-up after rejoining the squad for the home test matches.
