Sprinting Into Final - FS/Maikeli Seru Tabakaucoro cruises to Aussie final Banuve Tabakaucoro looks set to win the 100 metre final of the 92nd Australian Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park, Melbourne,Australia. today. The South Pacific sprint king won the semifinal last night with a time of 10.60 seconds. The other semi was won by Tim Leathart of New South Wales with a time of 10.62 seconds. Tabakaucoro qualified for the semis after he won his 100m heat clocking 10.44secs on Friday night. He qualified for last night’s semifinals beating eight opponents which included New Zealand fastest man, Joseph Millar whose personal best -10.32s- was set in Auckland last week. Tabakaucoro, the South Pacific’s fastest man clocked 10.33 at the Mini Games at Wallis and Futuna last year. His father and manager, Ratu Jo Tabakaucoro said Banuve eased into the win saving his energy for the semifinals so that he could qualify for the today’s final. The semifinal had not run when this issue went to press last night. “He called immediately after the heats and I am glad that he did well despite being alone in Australia,” Ratu Jo said. “He assured me that he is calm, in good spirit and is taking more time to relax and prepare. He is running in the 200 metres tomorrow (today). “He is running for Fiji in Australia and I thank all those who helped fund his trip to Australia like Joseph Rodan Senior and Junior, Paul Yee, Albert Miller and especially Digicel Fiji which has been supporting Banuve in his training. “Banuve will work hard in Melbourne because it is also the qualification for Australia into the Commonwealth Games.
