Srimad Gita Chapter 2 Samkya Yoga Or the Yoga of Knowledge (continued) Life is unprompted; the only trouble with man is that he has a will to choose; to plants and all animals other than man, nature itself has taken that responsibility of fixing their customary preference. In the case of man if he is enlightened he will always choose the right path while a wrong conditioning of his delight can tend to make him choose the wrong way; it is for this reason it is said knowledge is virtue; personal education and self-correction is a lifelong business. The proper attitude to a fully dedicated person is to have a course of life uninfluenced by the consideration of the pair of opposites such as pain and pleasure; fame or shame, victory or failure; but to remain ever-established in the Timeless or the Pure-being. He should not be least concerned or anxious of his yesterdays or tomorrows; yet he should be alive and wakeful, to carve out of yesterday and today the most beautiful tomorrow his mind can conceive of. Sri Krishna puts across this wisdom to Arjuna in the following words, “Your concern should be with action alone, not for any benefit whatsoever; do not become motivated by benefit; at the same time do not be attached to inaction. Action is a performance and the quality of a performance depends on the sincerity of the person engaged in the action. This only enhances the importance of the will in his mind, in such a case the opportunity to act is itself looked upon as an occasion to relate oneself with the Supreme; when once a person is established in the supreme, life becomes instinctively harmonised. The sages have declared that real conditions of Yoga and equanimity with regard to good or not so good results arise out of one’s actions; the equanimity is in itself is the essence of Yoga, in which there exists the union of understanding (Budhi) with the mind (manas). In an unqualified evaluation Budhi Yoga is superior to Karma Yoga, however Budhi Yoga is possible by performing actions because Yoga is completion of destiny; it is imperative to remove from your mind all ideas of the fruits of actions and thus you will be ultimately freed from the bonds of right and wrong. While undertaking actions you must be indifferent to the results and if this is achieved you will be freed from the sequence of birth and death, and reach the immortal status and enjoy the infinite bliss of Supreme Brahman. If you can get the mind which is usually distracted with the association of senses; freed of delirium, then there arises in your mind the significance of and a feeling of renunciation, then with this feeling the unfathomable and wholesome knowledge will dawn on you and your mind will be spontaneously free from desire and you will have attained Yoga.” .
