Srinagar: Chairman JK RTI Movement Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool on Tuesday accused Block Development Officer(BDO) Khansahib of assaulting him in his office chamber at central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Sheikh said that he visited the office of BDO with a complaint for completion of a sanitation point at Mujpathri village, but the officer behaved rudely. “When I took up the matter with him and sought to know as why our complaint was not being heeded he passed on lewd remarks. He along with a few people sitting in his office assaulted and intimidated me,” Sheikh told Kashmir Reader. He said that after the incident he brought the issue into the notice of District Commissioner Budgam who assured of a fair probe. Meanwhile, the JK RTI movement has condemned the alleged assault seeking action against the officer. “When RTI activists are attacked for raising genuine issues, how can ordinary people raise their grievances before the authorities? We strongly denounce it and demand stringent action against the concerned official,” said chief spokesman RTI movement Farooq Kuthoo. The RTI movement has also sought Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s attention to take action against this “rowdy behavior” in public offices. “People have been facing such attitude at BDO Office Khansahib for sometime. Even in the past several RTI applicants were manhandled,” said Programme Coordinator J&K RTI Movement, Sajad Rasool.
