St Andrews Lutheran Church - Daily Devotional: Friday June 28th – Luke 9:51-62 Ever wonder why it was that people did not receive Jesus along the way to Jerusalem (vs. 53)? Geographically speaking in order to get from Galilee to Jerusalem Jesus would have had to walk through Samaria. It was well know that the Jews and Samaritans did not get along. In fact, Jews would often walk around the region of Samaria, significantly lengthening their journey in order to avoid the area. James and John, disciples of Christ, wanted to punish the Samaritans for their hostility toward Jesus. But Jesus, in His faithfulness, rebukes them showing grace toward those who knew no better. Even as He walked to His death Jesus was demonstrating a life of love and forgiveness. May you today, when faced with a situation where you would rather respond out of anger, remember the life of grace and forgiveness Jesus lived and respond in kind.
