St. Théodore Guérin Saint Theodore Guerin (1798–1856) is the foundress of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. St. Theodore Guerin, as well as five other sisters, established the first Catholic womens liberal-arts college in the United States, the Academy of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Furthermore, Saint Theodore Guerin formed numerous schools, pharmacies, and orphanages throughout the state of Indiana. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II and canonized in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. St. Theodore Guerins feast day is October 3rd.
