Staff at our Eurardy Reserve in WA recently joined some volunteer moth & butterfly enthusiasts collecting specimens for the International Barcode of Life project in Canada. We saw an amazing diversity of moths. A few facts you might not know: - moths are vital for pollinating many plants & are a food source for mammals, reptiles & birds - they generally fly at night, whereas butterflies fly in the day - resting moths hold their wings flat (butterflies hold wings closed above their bodies) - there are 22,000 moth species recorded in Australia with new discoveries all the time!
