Stage protests after Eid prayers: Geelani to people Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani appealed people to stage peaceful protests after Eid prayers against secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru, recent killings and arrests of youth in the state. Geelani, in a statement today, announced that he would offer his Eid prayers at Hazratbal shrine here if permitted to do so by the authorities. Geelani appealed for peaceful demonstrations after Eid prayers against the issues related to secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru, brutal killings of Tahir Ahmad Sofi, Mudasir Kamran, Ubair Mushtaq, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Muhammud Yusuf Sofi, Hajra Begum, Riyaz Ahmad Khanday, and Altaf Ahmad Wani by armed forces, Markundal Sumbal episode, desecration of holy Quran in Gool and detention of political prisoners. “Despite tall claims made by Omar Abdullah-led administration about peace and stability, the killing of innocent continued and “state terrorism” was at its peak,” Geelani said, stressing upon the people to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in a dignified and simple way. “Keeping in view the present grave situation when with each passing day we shoulder the coffins of our near and dears, we should not ignore the fact that our youngsters are offering precious sacrifices for freedom within ambit of Islam,” he said. Commenting over uproar in Parliament and ruckus created by electronic and print media over the killing of 5 armed forces on border, Geelani said, “There is uproar in Parliament over killing of five men but silence is observed when innocent civilians are killed in Jammu and Kashmir, and even not a single person comes out to express his sympathy.” Geelani said 574 persons affiliated to the movement are lodged in different jails and despite court orders they are not released even on the eve of Eid ul Fitr.
