Stand supported Dr. Ferebee and IPS today by testifying for the portfolio schools bill in the House education committee. Stand Exec. Director Justin Ohlemiller released the following statement after the bill passed committee: “Kids win when our education leaders have the flexibility to let innovation thrive in our schools and more tools to let great teachers to do their jobs effectively. That’s exactly what House Bill 1321 does. If passed into law, this legislation could lead to new partnerships between IPS and charter schools—and even opportunities for the district to replicate its own effective, data-proven models. The result would be new, high-quality schooling options within the IPS system and better outcomes for children – all of whom deserve access to a great school no matter where they live in IPS. “We appreciate Dr. Ferebee and his leadership in supporting this bill. In his first few months, Dr. Ferebee has shown that he’s willing forge new partnerships and take a fresh approach to turning around IPS. I hope legislative leaders—especially those representing Marion County—can rally around Dr. Ferebee and give him the tools he needs to transform struggling schools and give greater educational opportunity to IPS children.” ###
