Star Wars: The Jedi Code and Buddhist philosophy. Star Wars is a pretty popular movie franchise created by movie director George Lucas. To this day, there are a series of movies, games, cartoons, books and comics out to increase the popularity and publicity of this franchise to our youths. George Lucas described Star Wars as a movie that demonstrated how through different circumstances, a person can be influenced to make good or bad choices in their lives. Under this concept, this explains the popularity of Star Wars and how it has survived many years being known as an increasingly popular series. How does Star Wars tie in with Buddhist philosophy? There are a series of different aspects that point to similarities to Buddhism. The Star Wars movies, have a series of scenes that point to Buddhism. With later movies along with a series of novels, this adds on in terms of followings and ideals. Jedi arent to be bound with emotional attachments. Although Jedi are often known to have glimpses of the future, they are taught not to dwell on the future or past but rather to live in the moment. The battle between dark and light is similar to someones internal balance of yin and yang. One cannot exist without the other, and the choices made determine how far we are influenced into one or the other. I am often surprised at how similar chi and the force are in terms of lore. People make choices every day whether to be indulgent or not. It can be as obvious as someones attachment to a fancy car, or it can be as subtle as someones attachment to a stuffed animal or security blanket. Being able to let go and learning that the feelings of attachment arent necessary is an important aspect of how people grow up. Whenever an emotional attachment to something becomes strong, it becomes more tragic to the person when they lose that attachment. If your car gets totaled in an accident, you can tell yourself, at least no one was hurt.
