Start with a REVELATION not a RESOLUTION by Josh Brett What is a resolution? A decision to do or not do something. Its foundation is good intentions. A resolution is about as reliable as entering X Lotto. Chances of the resolution sticking are slim. Men and women are behind resolutions. God is behind revelations. You and I are limited in our capacity and ability. God is unlimited in his ability and capacity So when faced with the option or a resolution or a revelation the question is one of life limited or life unlimited? As I search the scriptures, time after time I find men and women of faith and I find that their experience of God all started with a God said - a revelation word. To Abram in Genesis 12:1-3 - All started with a God said – a revelation – not a resolution. To Moses in Exodus 3:7-12 - All started with a God said – a revelation – not a resolution. To Joshua in Joshua 1:1-9 - All started with a God said – a revelation – not a resolution. To Gideon in Judges 6:11-16 - All started with a God said – a revelation – not a resolution. To Solomon in 1 Kings 5:5-6 - All started with a God said – a revelation – not a resolution. Each of these experienced God in their lifetime – in their daily existence – Gods promises were not reserved for their eternity but were realised in their NOW. So what can we take from each of these? GOD SAID If we want to live like they lived and experience God as they experienced God we need to start with a God said. Want to see Gods hand at work – then live with a God said Want supernatural breakthroughs, miracles, provision? We need a God said When we do what God said we will live in the realm of what God does!! What is a REVELATION? The word revelation in scripture literally translates: a disclosure of truth, instruction, concerning divine things before unknown (darkness into light) – given to the soul by God himself, or by the ascended Christ, especially through the operation of the Holy Spirit When we talk about a revelation – we are talking about the Holy Spirit illuminating scripture to us – the Holy Spirit bring alive the words on a page and making them life and purpose in us. The light coming on. We are talking about the effectual power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We are talking about the Holy Spirit giving us insights into the things of God. Revelation has to be scriptural. Has to be backed up by scripture. Those who claim to have fresh revelation from God that is not in the scriptures is misguided - they are in error - so I recommend you run! We cannot add to or take away from scripture. You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you. - Deuteronomy 4:2 (ESV) Purpose of REVELATION? I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. - Ephesians 1:17 (NIV) That we may know him better. That you may know the promises of God better and the premises that unlock the promises: 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Promise: Forgiveness of sins – purified from all unrighteousness Premise: Confess our sins Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Promise: All things will work out for good Premise: Love Jesus Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Promise: Good measure – running over shall be given to you Premise: Give How do we get REVELATION? I have been pondering this these past few days and began to review how I get to a GOD SAID place. Here it is: TIME Key to a great marriage = TIME Key to a strong relationship with your kids = TIME Key to growing finances = TIME Key to an effectual relationship with God and living from a GOD SAID is TIME When you think of the most valuable things in your life – most are the result of time. Often those things that come quickly can have setbacks and not be all they are cracked up to be because we have not grown into those things and developed the character and capacity for those things. (i.e) lottery winners, rebound relationships Here is how I approach living from a GOD SAID: T.I.M.E. TALK, THINK – talk to God like you would a close friend – think about God – allow God thoughts to enter your mind – shut the noise down and get the mind of Christ I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:17 (NIV) IMAGINE, INVITE – Imagine what God wants to do in your life – invite the Holy Spirit to be involved in your life – a revelation is the result of Holy Spirit illumination – its the only way. MEDITATE, MOUTH IT – how to meditate? Me and 1 Kings 5 recently – pick it apart – cross reference it – get background commentary – what does this word mean? Holy Spirit – what are you saying to me? What does this mean for me right now? This is meditation. Then mouth it – talk it out – confess it out! Your mouth is the rudder of your life. Not happy with your destination in life? Change your direction by changing your confession. I can’t continually confess that I am fearfully and wonderfully made without one day entering into that belief. If I continually tell myself how useless I am – I am dumb – I am a failure then I am guaranteed to think and act like I am useless! EXPECT – aim for nothing and you will hit it everytime – our relationship with God must be loaded with expectation = I expect God to speak to me, I expect God to lead me, to guide me, to comfort me, to provide for me – I live in total expectation of God God uses the Bible to speak HOPE in to our life – this HOPE is found as scripture is ILLUMINATED – revealed – a revelation! When the promises of God become our focus, hope rises and begins to fill our heart and lives. It changes things. It changes perspectives. It changes how we think, how we see, how we listen, how we act, how we talk. What will be your God said in 2015? Abram; Moses; Joshua; Gideon; Solomon – all had a GOD SAID Jesus had a GOD SAID – on the Mount of Olives before being arrested and crucified he is praying and says - “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” This was his GOD SAID – he was living out Gods purpose. In 2015 – what will be your GOD SAID? Will you have a GOD SAID? Will you live in revelation or in a resolution? Have a great 2015! Ps Josh Brett
