Starting off on Africas firsts on #AfricaExplored is the Sankore University, more commonly known as the University of Timbuktu, arguably the oldest University in the world. Established in Ancient Mali, the University was built around 3 mosques and produced outstanding scholars in Math, Science, Astronomy and much more. Some parties argue however, that the oldest Univeristy in Africa is the University of Al-Karaouine; located in Fes, Morocco. This University started out as a mosque in 859 and is doubly noteworthy because it was established by a woman named Fatima al-Fihri. The university still gives out degrees till today.
