Starting this Fall semester, Forman Christian College has opened a Centre for Dialogue and Action (D&A) to promote understanding and mutual respect among people of different faith traditions, cultures, and genders. Dr Amineh Hoti, Fellow-Commoner at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, is the Executive Director of the D&A. She is an advisor to the Three Faiths Forum and patron of charities aiming for global peace and world solutions, such as the UK Friends of the Bereaved Families Forum. Mr Charles M Ramsey, the Academic Director of the D&A, teaches in FCC’s Department of Religion. He is an active member of the Common Word Movement and has been an advisor to the National Peace Committee for Interfaith Harmony in Pakistan. Activities at the D&A will begin in this current semester and they will be pioneering a new course in the Spring called Interfaith Relations (ISLM 305). The D&A seeks to promote peace thorough research, classes and activities that foster greater appreciation and understanding of religion, ethnicity and gender in Pakistan, and in the wider global context. Grounded in the local understanding and indigenous knowledge, the Centre will work to equip our community to value diversity and to respect and appreciate the ‘Other’. As its name implies, the D&A want to be catalysts for a proactive approach that turns dialogue into action through innovative strategies for capacity building and conflict resolution in order to reverse trends of intolerance and radicalization, and to rediscover paths to peace and establish new ones as well.
