State Senator railing against common core as asking for assimilation, negating individual and community values. Textbooks as tools, not something that must be dictated to teachers. Final note: Im 70 years old and I screw up the English language everyday. But we ask students who are homeless, who immigrated nine months ago, to pass proficiency tests I would probably fail.
