Statement by James Masango MPL Provincial Chief Whip of the Official Opposition DA welcomes Cogta director’s arrest 24 October 2013 Release: Immediate The DA welcomes the arrest of Mr Sam Ngubane, Chief Director of Development and Planning for the department of Cooperative Governance following an investigation into the corrupt handling of a tender relating to the department’s Water For All flagship project. This project was launched in 2009 by former premier Mr Thabang Makwetla and was aimed at accelerating the roll-out of water infrastructure and also to eradicate water backlogs by 2010. Instead, it served as a haven for mismanagement of funds and the total disregard of thousands of communities across the province who suffer because they have no access to clean water. We hope that his arrest will send a strong message to all those in public office that are considering involvement or are currently involved in tender corruption. Our province needs a government that will serve and be accountable to its people instead of one that undermines set systems and uses taxpayer’s money to further its own agendas.
