Statement from the CSRC on Registration As the CSRC we are loyal to the fight of creating right of entry and achievement, never only to the wealthy and middle class but most prominently for the underprivileged working class students who shall modify their background and uplift their lives and of those surrounding them. We will carry on fighting until the policy is entirety out, in sympathetic of those who are still coming to study, As the CSRC after the meeting with the Chair of Council and the VC we have agreed on the following: • That CUM must start to take appeals as it has done previously NSFAS • All returning and new students who have confirmed NSFAS awards (NSFAS Pre-Selected) and have no Debt will not be expected to make any upfront payment, any contribution which they can afford is encouraged • This year 2014 and in the future, all NSFAS awarded students will receive quarterly allowance after the University has made deductions of all the fees and other related costs. • Students who are in excellent academic standing, have passed all the courses and are able to move to the next academic year will be allowed to register with any contribution they can afford provided that they have no debt and willing to sign debt arrangement for settling their 2014 fees • Students who do not have any previous debt will be allowed to register with any contribution but must pay the upfront payment until end of March. • Students, who were billed late for their accommodation cost in 2013, will be allowed to register without the amount billed late be taken as part of the upfront payment according to the current formula. • Contributions by the SRC from our own institutionally allocated budget to assist needy students will be matched by the University on 1:1 bases. This is to inform the students and the CPUT community that as the CSRC we are postponing the mass demonstration after what we have agreed in our meeting but if things doesn’t work in favour of student we will go back to the streets. We as CSRC would like to thank the students that showed commitment in making sure that the management see and feels our frustrations and as the CSRC we will always put students interest first before anything else.
