Statement of Speaker William J. Howell on Medicaid Fraud Settlement FREDERICKSBURG, VA –– Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) released the following statement Wednesday on the Internal Revenue Service’s failure to release $125 million in settlement money owed to the Commonwealth of Virginia: “Today’s announcement by Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli on the Internal Revenue Service’s failure to release $125 million in money owed to Virginia is deeply troubling. It is yet another example of how mismanagement at the federal level of government continues to hurt Virginia. “The Commonwealth is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best managed states. Yet, time and time again, we are stuck cleaning up the mess caused by Washington D.C.’s poor policy planning, mismanagement and empty promises. “If the IRS cannot manage to disburse funding from a court-ordered settlement, how can we rely on the agency to properly and efficiently implement health care reform and how can we trust the federal government to keep its promise on funding for Medicaid expansion? The answer is simply – we can’t.” # # #
