Statement to the LAPD Police Commission this morning. Via Sha Dixon: We occupied the LAPD Headquarters and brought life and love to the premises. Over the past week hundreds of people have moved in and out of the #OccupyLAPD space. Whether it was to pray with us, camp out with us, bring food or resources, instruct meditation, hip hop dance, or hoola hoop classes, the list goes on. Men, women, families, children, community organizers, and even some of my freedom fighting heros have been to the space to offer advice and words of encouragement. For everything I have listed I am thankful. The people are demanding that the state stop the active war and terror they are inflicting upon our people. We have gathered to get our points across to Chief Beck and his subordinates using art, healing, love, and unity. For that, they have criminalized us. Myself and Dr. Melina Abdullah were illegally arrested yesterday. I think they believed that if they took out the 2 main leaders that #OccupyLAPD would cease to exist and the community would stop demanding justice. Well they are wrong. We will NOT abandon our occupation. We will continue our encampment until our demands are met. The LAPD holds the #1 spot for murders of community members. That is a problem and the LAPD will be held accountable for their actions. Come out to the encampment today.
