Stay Safe People An avalanche reportedly 30 meters wide and 600 meters long was triggered today near the popular Murudo backcountry area near Tateyama, in the mountains south of Hakuba and east of Toyama, Japan. The location is described in one report as on the western slope of the Ashikuraji-Cho peak (2860 m). Reports indicate search efforts fully underway, two transported to the hospital, more dug out, and an unknown but large number of people still missing. Bystanders began an initial response immediately. Rescue teams from Hakuba were alerted but unable to get helicopter transport to the scene before dark. The highly trained Toyama Kenkei Police mountain rescue team was able to respond rapidly and is working on scene. Our prayers are with all involved.
