Stein thistle vAccies Adam 13, Brad 17 Div 29 HT 0-3 Div 41 Frazer 46, Burns pen 52, Douglas 80 It was a game that had to be won. A win would ensure a play-off with Rossvale and a semi final play off. With parking restrictions in place the turn out was massive. Local shops normally open were all closed in the local village. Many had given up the thrill of the Ryder Cup ( and what a draw that was this morning) to support the Mighty Accies. They were not to be disappointed. Low flying aircraft and helicopters came and went as many tried to get a sneaky view. Those that got a glimpse were not disappointed as yet again the Accies showed their slick passing, ball possession and dominance in attack as stein thistle put up a magnificent challenge. They stood their ground - held their shape and made Accies work like Trojans. It was a stoke of magical genius that saw the Accies take the lead. A Cookie corner swinging in from the right was guided into the net by McKeown - like an expert entomologist catching his delicate prize - undamaged - unscuffed the ball floated into capture the first goal. The dead lock broken - the passion raised it was then a plague of thunder shots & blistering attacks. It was to the fans amazement, how well the stein midfield and defense withstood the barrage - with respect it was the captain number 14 who stood strong and lead his team in a defensive struggle. Brad seized the opportunity to launch an absolute screamer from 28+yards out to double the lead in what was a goal of the season contender. Unfortunately for the stein keeper there was no option other than to pick it out the net. Just before the half hour mark it was excellent link up play with school mates Mckeown - again in the mix - with Thomson that saw the blistering striker burst through with one of his runs and skip onto Mckeown perfectly weighted pass. With no sympathy given, the goal was executed in typical and reliable efficiency 3-0. HT 0-3 It was a refreshing break at half time although following previous weeks performances the hunger could not be taken away - like a hungry pack of wolves the Accies came out at half time and displayed a phenomenal 12 minutes of total dominance and uncompromising compassion, the Accies showed why they were Scottish champions. Div Burst through on a long ball to round the keeper although over hit he managed the tight angle for a beautiful left footed shot that cleared the last two stein defenders to seal his third brace of season. Five mins later, after another few missed chances as the Stein goals were pummeled. Missing his first chance of the second half Maclennan sealed his goal target for the month, seconds later, with a well fought for goal, in what can only be described as a goalmouth scramble 0-5. The Thistle may have been beaten on paper but they fought for every ball even to the end however the twelve minutes of dominance ended with Douglas being tripped and a penalty being blown. Up stepped the cool headed burns to execute the penalty in a truly professional manner to seal the 6th. Thistle regrouped - reviewed their shaped and limited any further damage for the remainder of the game no 4 leading the attack. Our man of the match McKeown worked his socks off the entire time he was on the pitch - marked by the assist he made in the 80th minute where he played through Douglas who also had a great game to claim his goal with a crisp finish that was met with the whistle after it had crossed the line. A fitting end for the a superb game. Our man of the match Mckeown (A Short video showing football as a winner -) Following the match we would like to thank Thistle for their hospitality of tea & coffee, also for the use of their modern facilities. The next game secured the respect from both teams as they played a bounce game which went all the way to penalties. As a parent and football fan it was absolutely fantastic to be involved in fair play, interaction from parents and coaches and the feel good factor supplied by the ref - as he facilitated a fun filled penalty shootout that must be given to the thistle for originality and entertainment value. Stein Thistle the team we played that brought the good fun of football back - for that we thank you!! RESPECT GUYS!!
