Step By Step Every step of the ladder is another victory!!!Several new steps were made today that are worthy of celebration!!! He looks much, much better and he acts just a little ornery sometimes and that seems so much more like him.He went outside again for a little sun and stayed there more then 5 min.He has more strength to move around in bed without so much help and ...well I didnt celebrate on this next one but it was an accomplishment. He had been taking a nap for awhile this afternoon while the rest of us were visiting outside. Randall went in to check on him and he was awake and told Randall that he went to the bathroom alone!! Randall was having a fit then he said,Well it wasnt alone, the IV pole went with me.Three days ago it took at least 2 people to get him to the bathroom so you see this is noteworthy....but I was NOT amused.I asked him why he didnt call a nurse and he said he didnt think about it.So thankful he didnt fall!! The Dr. came to check on him today and I just realized again how much I liked him!!He was rejoicing at the improvements he saw just by looking at him. He said it was ok that the tube came out because it was going to come out soon anyway and he says there is movement in Jonathans gut again...it sounds normal when he listens to it with the sethescope and he got me to listen too...funny how I didnt have a clue what the normal sound is.He says it could still be a couple days before Jonathan has a bowel movement because there is nothing there now that they took it out and he has not eaten food for a week...not more then a couple bites of broth. He was telling Jonathan how to start slowly with eating, first water and juice then broth etc etc. I mentioned that yesterday Jonathan said he just wants a coke, and funny.. he doesnt even drink coke at home. The Dr. stopped what he was doing and looked at him and said,Do you want a coke? Jonathan said,Yes. He said ,I will bring you a coke. After he finished the exam he looked at jonathan and raised his right hand and said I will get you a coke now! A few minutes later he was back in with it and wondered if we have ice because it wasnt very cold.Coke is certainly not a cancer fighting drink but he was so delighted that Jonathan wanted something finally, he was gonna make sure he got it!! I just dont think a Dr. can get much nicer then that!! Matts and Randalls were here most of the afternoon then I went back to the clinic with Matts for a couple hours.Justin and I came back with a taxi about 8:00 then Randalls went back with Justin to the clinic. Jonathan is already sleeping and hopfully he will have a good night. The Dr. said he is getting much less then half the amount of pain killers and yes his misery last night was withdrawal.Poor guy!! The surgeon was here this afternoon when I was gone...he said they plan to start radiation tomorrow targeted at his upper leg. They are sure that will take care of the rest of his leg pain, or at least a lot of it.I had mentioned earlier that there is still tumor there. I finally asked a Dr. how much is still there and he said, O just cells. Hmm, that was a little different then I had understood earlier.I hope to get some more answers this week. It seemed like last week the Dr. were so terribly concerned about his pain and discomfort that they didnt even discuss a lot of things with us.One of the Drs. told me that he thot for awhile that his pain was due to something about the nerves( I forget how he explained it )and that kills the patient and there is nothing they could have done!!I l know God was answering prayers last week but honestly I didnt see it or feel it...I did feel His Grace tho. And the Dr. said today that he will try to get us back to the clinic tomorrow---- O I want to so bad!!But in all reality If its best for hon to stay here then that is OK too. It looks like we could be here at least all of March and That seems like forever but I want to focus on getting him well and not on all the other things I would like to be doing at home. We are blessed by your prayers and encouragement!! MaryAnn and the Bunch
