Step ONE Power of attitude – I remember seeing a TV - TopicsExpress

Step ONE Power of attitude – I remember seeing a TV advert fronted by a British athlete several years ago. He was teaching his son how to succeed in life and what he said stayed stuck in my head, he said, “son, its all about PMA”. The little boy looked confused and said, “what’s that dad?” His father with a huge smile on his face replied, “positive mental attitude”. I have always found those words a great reminder for me and a brilliant motivation to make the best of all the opportunities that life has throws at my direction. Success and failure depends on our attitude. People who take a grim view about their own strengths and constantly remind themselves of their weaknesses often remain weak and miserable. People who take a positive attitude find happiness, prosperity and opportunities following them around. If you wish to make the best of life it starts with knowing that in life there is nothing called failure, it is always another opportunity for your to try it again, do it better and achieve more. Those who give up easily don’t get far in life. Prayer is an opportunity to connect with Allah and daily five times prayer is five real-time opportunities to connect with Him. Imagine if you had five attempts everyday at everything in your life! Those who give up on prayers because they feel no connection with Allah after the first time have fundamentally missed the point. While every time we stand for prayer we should try our best to connect with Allah intimately and personally, it is humanly impossible to achieve the same level of connectivity all the time. Those who subscribe to a positive mental attitude take each opportunity gracefully, do their best to connect with Allah each time and when they feel they have not attained their desired goal, they try it again the next time. Don’t forget, the opportunity to have a one-to-one conversation with Allah will be available soon again. It is never too late to try again. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is another example of how Allah provides us a thirty days window to benefit from Allah’s Grace, abundant mercy, infinite forgiveness and most importantly development of a refined conscience. Imagine going into a month long detox programme where you get to clean your inside and out by taking thirty days of strict diet of nutritious food, clean thoughts, controlled speech, restrained gaze, sound hearing and spiritual boost. You have thirty days to perfect it. The power of positive attitude would determine whether you benefit from the fast or not. If your attitude is negative and defeatist it is likely that you would find fasting daunting and fearsome. If you simply live for food, fasting would test your attitude to the maximum. If your attitude were all about gluttony and over indulgence fasting would drive your stomach and taste buds insane. A positive mental attitude towards food means you eat because you need food to survive. You eat the right type and quantity of food to sustain your consistent level of energy. You eat in fair and healthy measures to maintain a good health. You do not waste food and you demonstrate a reverential attitude towards food that sustains your life. To develop this healthy relationship with food, Allah has gives us an entire month of fasting to train ourselves and develop a powerful and meaningful relationship with food. Remember you have thirty days to get it right. Gaining power from the night power is about learning to change your attitude. Powerful people are not shy of changing their ways to improve the way they do things. If it doesn’t work, why hold on to it? The following verse of the Quran is extremely significant when understanding the point about attitude to change. “Allah does not change the condition of those people who do not change what is within them.” The change must fire up from within. The realization that you must alter your thinking, your attitude, your methodology and yours objectives is the first step in the right direction. Attaining Allah consciousness is about becoming powerful and becoming powerful is about having the right attitude. You attitude towards Allah will determine your relationship with Him too. For some people Allah is miles away from their daily life. They don’t feel His presence. They don’t recognize His signs. Allah is put away in a box, alas, a box with artificial reverence and ostentatious decorations. They take Allah out of the box out only during births, deaths and marriages. They bring Allah out when they need something from Him and as soon they have their way, they put the box away. This attitude towards Allah is based on erroneous understanding of Allah and our relationship with Him. It certainly impacts on their spiritual path and outcome. Truly enlightened and powerful people live with the attitude of Allah’s presence in their conscious and subconscious life. They know Allah is closer to them than the fine line that divides life and death. They know that Allah is in full control of this universe and nothing happens without His knowledge. They submit to the greater power and authority of Allah and they accept the suggested straight path that would lead them to ultimate success and triumph. In conclusion, if you want to attain true Allah consciousness start the journey with changing your attitude. If you want to gain power from the night of Power believe in the power of your positive mental attitude. Allah will change your condition when your change what is within you first.
