Stephen Colbert got me again. Another funny (and sad) clip - TopicsExpress

Stephen Colbert got me again. Another funny (and sad) clip prompted me to research Harry Reids stats regarding Presidential nominations and the nuclear option that was in the news last week. I was sure this quote must have been wrong. Since the founding of our country, 168 presidential nominees have been filibustered, 82 blocked under President Obama, 86 blocked under all the other presidents. Only 23 district court nominations have been filibustered in the history of our country, 20 of them have been in the last 4.5 years. Really? A bit of web research confirms that this statement is mostly true per political fact checkers. The only fact in question is how many blocked nominations there were prior to 1949 (maybe less than 10). So...start the clock in 1789 or in 1949, the facts still hold true. While Im sure folks will post comments here about the failed rollout of Obamacare, or will say the Rep party must block this President at every turn b/c his policies are so wrong. Im sure someone will say he is a liar, and someone may even say that I only site news that is favorable to the political party I support (shocking). How can either party look at these numbers and not see an issue that is, quite sadly, unprecedented in our nations history? Ok, go ahead and comment, but please keep it clean. politifact/truth-o-meter/statements/2013/nov/22/harry-reid/harry-reid-says-82-presidential-nominees-have-been/
