Stephen Sondheim has been regarded as one of the top musical creators of the last 50 years and Into the Woods is one of his most loved shows. it mixes multiple fairy tales into one cohesive narrative and adds stunningly complex music and lyrics to make a funny and poignant parody masterpiece. The feature film adaptation has released its first trailer and it is astonishing in two key ways 1) It is beautiful! Its been shot by Australian Cinematographer Dion Beebe and looks absolutely drop-dead stunning. It shares visual hallmarks with other recent Disney fantasy films like Alice in Wonderland and Snow White, but also has its own distinctive style. Beebe also shot Collateral, Edge of Tomorrow, Equilibrium, and a tonne of other amazing films. 2) Its completely devoid of singing. For a musical that doesnt normally have much actual dialogue, there is a shocking lack of singing in this trailer. People who know the show will recognise the themes in the score, but it is almost as if Disney are trying to hide the fact that its a musical! But with a cast like Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Jonny Depp and Meryl Streep… it probably doesnt matter. trailers.apple/trailers/disney/intothewoods/
