Stephen was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer late last - TopicsExpress

Stephen was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer late last year. He underwent surgery in December to remove his entire thyroid gland and was scheduled for radioactive iodine therapy, which in theory would make him cancer free. But a follow up scan showed he still had active thyroid tissue in his neck. So a second surgery to remove the tissue and nodules in the thyroid bed was performed … and failed due to scar tissue and swelling. His doctor still recommended the iodine therapy, though it would not affect the cancerous nodules. “Staying (here) for treatment has proven not to be the correct steps in curing my son,” mom said. So this strapping young man is getting ready to head to MD Anderson Cancer Center to have a top specialist surgically remove the remaining tissue and nodules, before beginning radiation. He’s been keeping himself busy, mostly outdoors fishing, hunting and skateboarding. For the record, I thought these were bass. I was told they were grouper he caught with his grandpa. I still don’t see the difference, but I don’t fish. Though I was told that if it was on my pole, I would know the difference. Hmmmm … haha :) After he gets back home, Stephen is already set to go on a fishing retreat and a bear hunt, thanks to the United Special Sportsman Alliance, Inc. … a nonprofit that helps kids with illnesses and disabilities to enjoy the outdoors. He may be an outdoorsman at heart, but he cleans up well too! Safe travels Stephen, and best wishes for a successful surgery and treatment.
