Steve Ingalls mentioned a Pew survey of Muslim attitudes around the world. I think this is it. It is a long read, and there is a huge amount of data in it. My initial takeaways are largely unsurprising. Muslims are, on average, significantly more conservative about sort of traditional moral issues than Westerners. (And by conservative I mean to say by comparison to the current West, or, comparable to the West hundreds of years ago). What Muslims consider moral, immoral, right and wrong varies widely across the Muslim world, keeping the first point in mind that as a whole they are more conservative. There are often large variations between different countries - showing that local cultural attitudes definitely impact the beliefs even of Muslims. There were some surprises. In a number of countries, Muslim acceptance of the scientific theory of evolution is significantly higher than acceptance of evolution in the US. Muslim religious conservatism does not seem to intersect with science in the same way it does in the US with conservative Christians. An amusing one: large majorities of Muslims all consider themselves more devout than other Muslims. Ha ha. I think you see this across ANY religion or philosophy. (Im more Objectivist than you are!) Large majorities of Muslims in most countries believe divorce is moral. Which is a good thing because majorities in most countries also believe polygamy is moral (Yeah, that fourth wife sounded good at the time..) Majorities and near-majorities of Muslims in many countries believe family planning (contraception) is moral. Many Muslims are concerned about religious extremists - and are MORE concerned about Islamic extremists than Christian or other. In general, few Muslims support suicide bombing or other attacks on civilians - the big exceptions are Palestine and Afghanistan (40% support), Bangladesh (26%) and Egypt (29%). At the other end of that spectrum you have Tajikistan (3%), Indonesia (7%), Iraq (7%). pewforum.org/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-overview/
