Steve Killelea, the man behind the Global Peace Index, was today named on the 2014 GOOD 100. Have a read of Steves profile and his dedication to peace: Steve Killelea is an Australian tech entrepreneur who has built several successful systems management businesses; his company, Integrated Research, services the London and New York stock exchanges, Visa, and MasterCard, and most of the world’s ATMs. He retired from his position as CEO in 2004 and began pushing a different kind of product: peace. The Institute for Economics and Peace, founded by Killelea in 2007, is dedicated to understanding the fundamental nature of peace, the defining characteristics of societies that embrace it, and the direct connection between peace and economic prosperity. Every year, IEP releases the Global Peace Index, a study that measures and ranks the relative peacefulness of countries around the world. Killelea warns against equating peace with the mere absence of strife and urges us to conceptualize it as a separate, quantifiable, and attainable goal.
