Steve signing in at 7:40 AM. Its bitterly cold outside this morning and its probably going to stay that way for the next seven days. Temperatures range from -1 at North Cove Pinnacle with winds gusting to 16 mph to 7 to 9 above along the I-40 corridor from Morganton to Lenoir to Hickory. Even Charlotte is checking in with 10F above. If were lucky we may reach 30F today under sunny skies with a gusty breeze this morning, subsiding a bit later today. Saturday appears to be our warmest day of the next seven with low to mid 40s during the afternoon in the foothills. A reinforcing shot of Arctic air arrives Monday and were down below freezing again all day Tuesday. Other than light snow showers in the mountains, there is no solid chance of precipitation over the next seven days. Interestingly, one of the long range models still forecasts a system to develop in the Gulf of Mexico and ride up the SE US Coast late Tuesday into Wednesday of next week, this has been going on for the past several days and now the other two long range models are following suit. The placement of this system right now, though, is such that the only locations standing even a slight chance of seeing any wintry precipitation are east of I-85. However, this has changed from time to time and could change again so were watching it for you. Also, by the end of next week, we could begin to see a pattern change with moderating temperatures and possibly more moisture returning into western North Carolina. Well see how that works out but it looks like the persistent Great Lakes trough that brought us all this cold weather may be flattening out, allowing a more west to east flow, which, for us means milder temperatures. Im ready and Ill be most of you are too.
