Stew Joyce is not on FB, but hes asked me to post this on his behalf: Dear Member I am standing as Chairman at the Basingstoke Rugby Club AGM and ask for you to support me by attending the AGM at 7pm on Tuesday 3rd June. I have decided to stand as Chairman as I believe the time is right for a change to take the club forward into the club’s next exciting phase of development and progression onwards and upwards. The club is doing some great work at the moment in addressing some issues around the club’s finances which have been under pressure for a number of years and I believe we need to continue this work to its conclusion. I will look to bring in sound processes and procedures around our expenditure and proper governance. We need a plan to reduce our debt which I believe we can achieve with an ambitious and aggressive financial plan to provide the club with a strong basis to continue the good work that has gone in over the past couple of years. Not only do the club need to put controls and governance around the expenditure we need to grow our income from internal and external sources. Internally we need to use one of our greatest assets the clubhouse more than we currently do. Externally we need to reach out to more businesses in Basingstoke; small, medium and large with the unique culture we have. We also need to do more for our current sponsors making sure we look after their interests in the club. On the playing side from the minis to seniors we have over the past three years done some great work but there is still more to do. I would like us to continue to grow at all levels from under 6 to Academy to provide the senior section with quality players across the senior team’s year in year out. We have created key relationships with other sports clubs and we should look to include more in the future as the club moves forward. I have been at the club now for some twelve years starting out when my son started in the under 6’s becoming a coach from the under 9’s and the past six years managing the senior teams on a Saturday. For the first three years I managed the 2nd, 3rd and Vets XV and was instrumental in bringing the ‘Cavaliers’ back into the club. These past three years I have been Blue Squad Manager looking after the 3rd, 4th, 5th and Vets XV. With the current Senior Playing Management and Coaching team we have introduced a 5th XV for the first time in 20 years at Basingstoke bucking a national trend of diminishing teams within clubs. I also played a number of years in the Vets team and also had the honour of captain for a season. I believe with my involvement in the club across all areas in the past twelve years I am uniquely positioned to assist in driving the club forward as I have knowledge of the Club, its history, personnel, ways of working and most importantly an understanding of the Rugby section with its people and processes. I will look to bring in the necessary changes in organisation, ethos and processes whilst retaining the ability to be objective, listen to views of the membership from minis to senior playing and from supporter to sponsor and to take Basingstoke Rugby Club onto the next level over the next few years. I look forward to your support on the 3rd June. Regards Stewart Joyce
