Stewardship Conference - 15-16 March 2014 Over 200 Catholics including our brothers and sisters from Suriname are participating in the National Stewardship Conference at St Pauls Retreat Centre. Bishop Francis explained that stewardship is discipleship which means living the Gospel everyday. A disciple is one who hears the Word of God, puts it into practice, building on solid ground, taking up the cross with a passion. To be a disciple is to expand and explode in the goodness of God (wonderful words). Archbishop Joseph Harris presentation was also very inspiring. His diagram of the hierarchy of a church explained how the groups in a parish are boxes with people not talking as everyone is concerned only with their own little box. He said that creativity is stunted as a result of everyone not getting out of their boxes. With his new model diagram: IMAGINATION - allows the church to stay alive because the church responds to the needs of the church at the time; AVAILABILITY - being there as a servant to work as the Master wants, church is at the service of the Kingdom; INCLUSIVITY - Most potent sign of the Kingdom - the church is a communion NOT a democracy - everyone must be involved; and MARTYDOM - speaking out, witnessing to the truth in doctrine and structures. Mr Michael Murphys presentation on Spirituality of Stewardship explained that stewardship is making daily decisions. We have to be completely committed - half a commitment is not a commitment at all. St Peters was represented by Rose Ifill and Jenny Ho-Yow.
