Being proactive in colic prevention requires an understanding of the equine digestive system. A life-sized model of the digestive tract is used in this class. Preventative measures are covered. Students will learn signs of colic and discuss 8 different forms of colic. Instruction will be given to use a stethoscope and take full range of vitals. Participants will learn what information they need to give the vet, and how to care for their colicking horse in the critical hours before the vet arrives. We will also cover what to expect when your vet arrives and after care for your horse.
